Festival season start with dusshera

Dusshera festival is celebrated typically in September-October months every year. It is celebrated for Nine days during Month Aswin(Aswija) 1st day to 9th day and concludes on the10th Day. The 10th day is popularly known as Dusshera. The mode and the fervor vary by a great deal across the subcontinent. The festival is mainly celebrated to mark the victory of Good over Evil. It is considered as a shubh-muharat - a very auspicious day -to start a new venture. It is a symbol of the victory of good over evil.

Different parts of India celebrate the festival in different ways. Some celebrate it as Navaratri, someas Vijaya-Dashami, and some as Dussehra, in worship of Goddess Durga or celebrating Rama's victory over Ravana. The celebrations vary from a day to nine days (for Navaratri) to a month (for Mysore Dasara).

In Mysore,Karnataka the festival is popularly known as Dasara Fair or Mysore Dassara Festival and has been declared as the State Festival of karnataka.It is the biggest Dusshera in India.

Celebrationin North India
The legend of this region narrates that Lord Rama killed Ravana, the ten-headeddemon king of Lanka on this day. Hence, on Vijayadashami day 3 huge effigies ofthe demons Ravana, Kumbhakaran and Meghanad are built and stuffed with fire crackers. In the evening 2 Men dressed as Rama and Lakshmana shoot fire arrows at the effigy and it goes up in flames busting crackers. People rejoice this scene and make merry go
ing around Melas/Fairs. They also watch the Ramlila (a dance drama of the epic Ramayana)with rapt attention.

In kota (the education hub) the second largest mela held every year.There are firewoks held on the first and last day of this mela.The statues of Ravana,Meghnath and kumbhkaran are busted on first day and 20 days mela
Gujratis celebrate started with that.
Dasara with specialpooja, Dandiya dances and Garba. Dandiya and Garba are the traditional dance ofthe Gujrat region, where men and women dress in traditional and colorful costumes and dance in-groups. Before they start the dance, the aarathi ritual to Mother Ambe is offered with the whole group singing songs in praise of the mother. Dandiya and Garba usually start around 9:00 p.m and winds uparound midnight with feasting.

Celebrations in East India especially in West Bengal, Durga Puja is the biggest festival. It is the festival to commemorate the triumph of Good over Evil.Community celebrations are very common and huge idols of DurgaMahishasura are installed in colorful pendals. In the evenings slaying people around that place come together to enjoy musical and cultural evenings. The last day of the festival is known as Dusshera or Vijayadashami.
